Preservation Basics

The purpose of the section is to inform novices and others about some basic values and steps taken for preservation of both architecture and sometimes its cultural significance for the district or neighborhood.  Information will vary from step-by-step guidelines to links of other sites better equipped to handle your concern.

We have divided ours into three areas: Landmarks and Districts, Advocacy and a basic Glossary.  In the first section we have described and given links for the two levels of historic designation in the City of Minneapolis.  The second section covers some history and will be more developed in the future on elements of how Preserve Minneapolis can be an advocate for your neighborhood.  The third section covers the majority of terms used in the industry that novices may want to know the meaning of.  This will enable them to better communicate with officials and other advocates in the field.  It includes not only the definitions but also related links for further exploration.
